Lawrence Police are seeking the public’s help in finding a person who reportedly tried to entice a little girl into a van Thursday by offering her candy.

The 5-year-old girl ran to her nearby home and was not harmed, Sgt. Mike Pattrick said. The incident occurred between 5:30 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. in the 1200 block of West Fifth Street.

Witnesses in the area told police they had seen the van and its driver but did not see the incident the girl reported, Pattrick said.

The van has been described as a 1980s model, full-size Chevrolet van that has a two-tone color of tan and brown. The driver was described as an American Indian man in his 20s.

The van reportedly slowed down as it approached the girl and the driver called to her, Pattrick said. This is the only such incident to be reported to police so far, he said.
