The students and staff at Free State are very proud of their school and its name. We are proud of the fact that the name of our school is a reference to the rich history of Lawrence as the free state headquarters of Kansas. To make fun of and make light of this historically significant name demonstrates poor judgment on the part of the writer and the editorial staff that allowed his statement to be printed.

We would hope that the Journal-World editors and, in fact, the entire World Company would agree that this was an inappropriate and degrading comment that has no place in our local paper.
