Force U-12 Runner-Up: Kaw Valley Force U-12 finished second in a tournament in Emporia, bowing to a Wichita team, 1-0, in the championship game. Team members are Nathan Ideus, Brian Sims, Colton Johnson, Nathan Hoffman, Anthony Brown-Davis, Alex McKee, Justin Ziegler, Taylor Bussinger, Garrick Valverde, Greg Glatz, Leah Williams, Brock Norwood, Gyer Vierthaler, Blake Armstrong, Adam Casady, Clay Larson, Andrew Heck and Ryan Dougherty. Mauro Nobre is the coach.

Norris, Roesler Tie: Chuck Norris and Chad Roesler both fired 75s for the low score in last Saturday’s Jayhawk Golf Club tournament at Alvamar. Runners-up, all with 78s, were Mike DuPree, Ben Overman and Van Reichert. In net, Bill Roenick carded a 66, six strokes better than Greg Johnson, Jay Patterson, Ed Phlegar and Tom Taylor.

Phenix U-12 Shines: During April, Lawrence U-12 Phenix softball, coached by John Hamilton, won a tournament in Olathe and placed second in a national qualifier in Basehor. Last weekend they compiled a 2-2 record in a meet in Carbondale. They’ll play in the Patty Heitzman Memorial tourney on June 1-2 in Lawrence.

Volunteers Needed: Baldwin High will play host to the State Youth Freestyle-Greco Roman wrestling tournament on June 1-2. Tournament workers are needed for the event. Also, a youth wrestling camp featuring several former collegiate champions is scheduled for June 18-22 at Baker University in Baldwin. Wrestler Selected: Stacy Lassman, a sophomore at Baldwin High, will attend the USA Wrestling women’s development camp in June in Colorado Springs. Lassman is hoping to compete in the first Women’s Freestyle-Greco Roman championships in July in Fargo, N.D.

McFall Wins 5K: Carol McFall of Lawrence was the women’s overall winner in the Truman Health Run 5K last Sunday in Independence, Mo. McFall, the defending champion, was timed in 19:59.

Free State Fund-Raiser: The Firebird Golf Classic, a fund-raiser for Free State High’s athletic department and spirit squads, is scheduled for June 3 at Alvamar Country Club. It’s a four-person scramble scheduled to start at 1 p.m. For information, call Randy Towner at 842-2929.

Phenix U-10 Second Twice: Lawrence U-10 Phenix softball placed second in tournament in an April tournament in Basehor and a May tourney in Shawnee. Coaches are Laurie Miller, Todd Welborn and Bill Finucane.

Seabury Camps: Seabury Academy’s boys basketball camp is scheduled June 10-14. The all-day sessions are for incoming seventh and eighth graders. Seabury’s girls camp will start July 22. For information about the boys, call Marcus Heckman at 760-4481 and for the girls call Tracy Kitson at 838-4317.

3-on-3 League Registration: The 4th annual Lawrence Hoopster 3-on-3 Summer League is accepting registrations until May 22. The league is for student-athletes currently in grades kindergarten through eighth. For information, call league director Rick McNabb at 749-4664.

Holcom Tryouts: Tryouts for players 15 and 16 years old interested in playing in the Holcom Baseball League will be held Saturday and Sunday. Players must be registered to participate.
