eBay pulls plug on auction for bone chips

? The Seattle Mariners are paying right-handed reliever Jeff Nelson $10.65 million over three years for his arm. The eBay bidding reached $23,600 for his bone chips until the auction was stopped.

The online company stopped the Nelson auction Wednesday, saying it doesn’t allow the sale of body parts. The site was up for about 24 hours.

Kevin Pursglove, an eBay spokesman, confirmed the sale did not go through, noting “eBay has a portion of its listing guidelines which covers human parts and remains.”

Nelson, 35, had surgery Friday to remove bone chips from the elbow of his pitching arm. He’s expected to be out for four to six weeks.

“I brought them around the clubhouse with me on Saturday, and I said that I should put them on eBay and all the guys started laughing,” Nelson told ESPN.com.
