Myrtle E. Stember

She was born May 3, 1905, near Dover, the daughter of Mark and Lillie May (Winsor) Sage. She had lived in the Oskaloosa, Ozawkie and McLouth areas for many years before moving to Big Springs in 1986. She moved to Topeka in 1999.

Mrs. Stember was a homemaker and farm wife. She also worked for a short time at Fairview Care Home, rural Oskaloosa.

She was a charter member of First Southern Baptist Church, Oskaloosa. She attended Big Springs United Methodist Church and was a member of United Methodist Women. She also served as the official greeter at Manor Care for several months.

She married Madison Walter in 1923. The marriage ended in 1929. She then married Kelly Keeton in 1939 in Topeka. He died Nov. 1, 1962. She married Frank Stember on Nov. 30, 1970. He died Feb. 6, 1984.

Survivors include two sons, Melvin Walter, Big Springs, and Jim Stember, Keene; four daughters, Vesta McKenzie, Rossville, Mabel Morand, Boise, Idaho, Juanita Lister, Maple Hill, and Bonnie Daniels, Ogden, Utah; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Barnett Funeral Home, Oskaloosa.
