Richard W. Dillon

? He was born Sept. 8, 1927, in Hutchinson, the son of Ray E. Sr. and Stella (Schmitt) Dillon. He graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1945 and was immediately drafted in the Air Force, where he served until 1946. He attended Kansas University until 1949, when he was recalled to active duty with the Air Force during the Korean War.

Mr. Dillon was active in the management of Dillon Cos. from 1953 until he retired in 1983, when it merged with Kroger Co. He served as president of Dillon Cos. from 1980 to 1982.

He was a school board member of USD 308 for eight years, serving two terms as president. He also served on the board at Hutchinson Hospital and as president of that board for two years. He was instrumental in forming the Hutchinson Community Foundation in 1989 and served as its first president for four years.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Hutchinson.

He married Carolyn Critser on May 3, 1952, in Wichita. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include three sons, Brad and Steve, both of Hutchinson, and Reed, Lawrence; a brother, Ray E. “Ace” Jr., Hutchinson; and six grandchildren.
