The week: Jackson, a ninth-grader at Southwest Junior High, won the 200 freestyle (1:56.67) and 500 freestyle (5:12.37) at the Sunflower League meet on Saturday at Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center.

Comment: “Ashley has been a strong leader for us all year,” FSHS swimming coach Jama Crady said. “She has placed in the top three in every event she has swam as a Firebird, and placing first at league has been the best race we’ve seen all year. She is a born competitor and it has been such an honor to coach her. We’re looking forward to a great performance at state (next weekend) and three more fun years of watching this spectacular athlete.”
