Credit counseling group to re-open with grant

Lawrence city commissioners agreed Tuesday to give $13,000 to Housing and Credit Counseling Inc.

Officials with the nonprofit HCCI, which deals with landlord/tenant issues in the city, say they had to close its Lawrence office in early April because they ran out of money.

The money will get them through the summer, when a federal grant is supposed to begin.

Commissioners approved the grant to aid the group’s re-opening after hearing support from a landlords’ organization and attorney who represents tenants.
