Lawrence convenience store robbed

A Lawrence convenience store was robbed Thursday night, the third such robbery in less than a week.

Two men wearing white mesh over their heads took money from the Kwik Shop, 845 Miss., Lt. David Cobb said. One of the men was wearing similar clothing to that of a man who robbed two stores in the early morning May 27.

About 11:30 p.m. Thursday a man reported to police he had pulled up to the store and became suspicious after seeing two men inside wearing white mesh over their heads and a woman clerk who appeared to be “flustered,” Cobb said.

“He drove away and called 911,” Cobb said.

Police responded but the suspects had already fled. The clerk was not hurt.

“They had their hands inside their shirts but no guns were displayed,” Cobb said of the suspects.

The suspects were both white men between the ages of 18 and 20, Cobb said. One man, estimated to be about 5 feet 7 inches tall, wore a bluish-gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.

That description is similar to ones given to police May 27 about a man who robbed Kwik Shop, 3440 W. Sixth St., and Total, 501 W. Ninth St., Cobb said. Only one man robbed those stores.

The second suspect in Thursday’s robbery was wearing a blue flannel shirt, police were told.

Anyone with information about the robberies is asked to call Lawrence-Douglas County Crime Stoppers at 843-TIPS. Callers remain anonymous. Calls also can be taken at 830-7449.
