Mole

George and Betty Mole, Lawrence, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with a family dinner on Sunday.

George Mole and Betty Jones were married May 5, 1942, at Plymouth Congregational Church with the Rev. Joseph F. King officiating.

Their first home was in Independence, Mo., where both were employed at Lake City Army Ammunition Plant. They then worked in an airplane engine manufacturing plant in Louisville, Ky., before returning to Lawrence. They worked at Sunflower Ordnance Works, owned a commercial iris garden, and owned and operated the Crystal Cafe. George retired as a technician for the School of Engineering at Kansas University. Betty retired as meal site manager for the Lawrence Senior Center.

The couple’s children are Nancy Hempen, Greeley, Colo.; Georgia Smith, Elburn, Ill., and their late son, Ronald Mole. They have eight grandsons and five great-grandchildren.
