Greedy groups

To the editor:

In response to your “Complicated or simple” editorial of April 29, I find it amazing how the simple glossing over and outright ignoring of facets of an issue make it so easy to resolve.

“…Kansas doesn’t have nearly as much money as it needs to finance countless programs…” clearly defines where the issue truly is. In the simple household, if your “wants” outweigh your “can do’s,” then you will have to remove “wants” until you balance your budget. What you have defined is “countless programs” and made the decision that they are untouchable.

In some respects these programs are untouchable in that many are used as the way to move money out of the pockets of one group, taxpayers, and put it in the pockets of others, the politically connected.

When taxpayers finally realize that your representatives can only remove money from your pocket to put in the pockets of others, with the removal of large “handling fees,” they will start electing representatives not for what “bacon” they bring home or some “feel-good” statements but adherence to simple laws and minimum programs.

Kansas probably has more than enough money to fund the basic needs of the state but not enough for every greedy group that has political influence.
