No replacement for Lopes

Atlanta TLC won’t replace Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, who died last week in a car crash in Honduras.

Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the Grammy-winning R&B trio will release its fourth album and plans to continue performing, but she and Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins won’t add a new member.

“As for Lisa being replaced never,” Thomas said. “You can’t replace a TLC girl. The chemistry we have is something God gave us. You can’t put that together.”

A private visiting for family and friends is set for tonight in Atlanta, TLC manager Bill Diggins said. A funeral is planned for Thursday in the Atlanta suburb of Lithonia.

The show goes on

Champaign, Ill. Film critic Roger Ebert, in town for his annual Overlooked Film Festival, slipped on a newly waxed floor and suffered two hairline fractures in his left shoulder.

Ebert injured his shoulder Saturday morning in the student union at the University of Illinois. He and his wife had just returned from Steak ‘n Shake, where they had been socializing with festival guests.

“He finished the festival with his arm in a sling on Saturday and Sunday,” said Nancy Casey, executive producer of the festival.

Phil & Friends, led by former Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh, is scheduled to perform on opening night, Aug. 30. Willie Nelson and Nickel Creek are set to perform on closing day, Sept. 2.

Tickets go on sale in May.
