Thoughtful letters

Perhaps if the public had some simple way of making a small contribution to the cause, like the bell ringers provide during the Christmas season, it would help. I’m confident that the generosity of our citizens will come to the rescue of such a worthy cause if it has the opportunity to do so. I want also to thank Eric Simpson for his moving letter of March 27 concerning the death penalty, especially since he was a former pro-death advocate. I agree that the taking of a person’s life for the sin of murder is most often an act of vengeance rather than justice. America is one of few civilized nations in the world to support such extreme measures even when numerous persons on death row have later been found to have been innocent. I think it was Christ who said that he who is without sin should cast the first stone.
