District finishes review of alleged strip search

? The school district announced Monday that it had finished its investigation into allegations that 23 third-graders were strip-searched over $5 in missing lunch money.

The district did not release the results of the investigation but said officials would report their conclusions to the state Board of Education in the next few days. After that, parents will be told about the findings.

Pitcher Elementary School principal Jana Schwimmer and two teachers were suspended with pay last week pending the outcome of the investigation.

According to several parents, girls were taken by a female teacher into a bathroom, then sent by pairs into stalls to search each other’s underwear.

Boys were taken to a gym where they went one by one into a locker room and a male physical education teacher had them undress completely and shake their underwear.

The school district has said Schwimmer did not know about the March 18 incident until after it happened.
