Old Home Town – 25 and 100 years ago

IN 1977 Kansas Gov. Robert Bennett strongly supported Kansas University’s requests for increases in funding through the legislature for the coming year. Bennett called the requests “quite reasonable and badly needed.”

IN 1902 On March 24, 1902, the Lawrence World stated “The man who does things is always maligned and criticized by the loafers. They declare that his is over-doing, that he is really a bad man at heart, but is good through hypocrisy. A town loafer is the enemy of thrift and character. He starts stories, corrupts homes and is a nuisance generally. We never will solve our social situations until we devise some plan of getting rid of the loafers. They are the confirmed mischief makers. The busy people have no time for such things and are simply the victims.”
