Evan Mielke of Cub Scout Pack 3072 received his Aleph Emblem during services March 15 at the Lawrence Jewish Community Center. The Aleph Emblem is for Jewish Cub Scouts. In order to earn the emblem, Evan studied the Bible and Jewish holidays, and attended services. The emblem was presented to him by Norman Kahn, chair of The Heart of America Council Committee on Jewish Scouting. Evan will be joining Boy Scout Troop 53.

Boy Scout Troop 56, chartered to the United Methodist Church in Lecompton, had a Court of Honor on March 18. The following boys received rank advancements: Lance Bohannan, Scout; Matthew Merritt, Scout; Sean Van Dyke, Star; Seth Zahniser, First Class and Star. Christopher Ketter was recognized for earning his Eagle rank, which will be awarded at a later date. The above scouts plus Nick Bergmann, Zack Larson, Donald Neavitt, Phil Foos, and Luke Zahniser received other awards as well.

In February, Troop 56 were co-hosts to the Klondike Derby for the Pelathe District. Scouts who attended were: Nic Bergmann, Phil Foos, Chris Ketter, Zach Larson, Matt Meritt, Donald Neavitt, Sean Van Dyke, Luke Zahniser and Seth Zahniser. Adult leaders who attended were Donna Bergmann, Neal Larson, Nelson Van Dyke and Steve Zahniser.

Den 6 of Cub Scout Pack 3051, chartered to Pinckney School, toured the Lawrence Police Department on March 7. Jon Barta conducted the tour. Cubs who attended were Dylan Sauer, Justin Sterns, Damon Stephens and William Gibson. They were accompanied by Christopher Crowe, Gerie Aiken and Justin Deaver, Den chief.
