American Heartland to have auditions

Kansas City, Mo. Â The American Heartland Theatre, 2450 Grand Blvd., will have open auditions for its 2002-2003 season in April.

Acting auditions will be by appointment April 3, 5 and 13. Singing auditions will be by appointment April 4 and 13.

Acting auditions should consist of two brief contrasting monologues, not to exceed one minute each. Singing auditions should consist of two brief contrasting songs. An accompanist will be provided.

Lectures to discuss cultures’ effects

Kansas City, Mo. Â “Art, Myth and Ritual,” a series of three lectures about how modern-day artists use ancient, African and American Indian cultures for inspiration, will be presented from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. March 30 in Atkins Auditorium at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, 4525 Oak St.

Speakers are Robert Cohon, curator of the art of the ancient world; Leesa Fanning, assistant curator of modern and contemporary art; and Joyce Youmans, curatorial assistant in African art.

Ice-skating show features Disney

Kansas City, Mo. Â “Disney on Ice” will bring characters from “The Lion King” and “The Jungle Book” to life during eight performances Wednesday through March 31 at Kemper Arena, 1800 Genesse.

The show has an elaborate set that includes a jungle setting with a 38-foot tree. Tickets are $10, $13.50 and $17.50 and can be purchased at Ticketmaster locations, (816) 931-3330.
