Marshall shoots 67 to take sixth overall
Aiken, S.C. ? Junior Chris Marshall matched his career best by carding a 67 as Kansas University’s golf team rallied for a share of third place Tuesday in the Cleveland Golf Collegiate Championships.
The Jayhawks moved up two places after shooting 4-under during the third round of the 15-team tournament at the 6,380-yard, par-71 Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken, S.C.
“The team played a little better today,” KU coach Ross Randall said. “Shooting 4-under-par 280 is a good way to finish the tournament.”
Kansas finished with a three-round total of 854, trailing champion Virginia Tech at 836 and second-place finisher the University of South Florida at 851. Texas-Arlington equaled KU at 854.
Marshall placed sixth with a 209, the fifth-best KU total since the inception of the Big 12 Conference in the spring of 1997. Senior Travis Hurst, who shot 69 for a three-round total of 211, tied for 10th.
Sophomore Tyler Hall closed the tournament with a 74 en route a 219 and share of 39th place. Freshman Andrew Price tied for 49th at 222, while senior Casey Harbour was a stroke back at 223 to tie for 52nd place.
“This is definitely an improvement from last week,” Randall said. “We are looking forward to our next tournament.”
Kansas travels to Stevinson, Calif., March 25-26 to compete in the Stevinson Ranch Invitational, hosted by Colorado.
