Stepping Stones seeks volunteers

Agency: Stepping Stones

Address: 1100 Wakarusa Drive.

Contact person: Shelly Platz, 843-5919.

Stepping Stones, a private, nonprofit child care center, is looking for volunteers to assist in providing activities to the children attending the center.

“Volunteers are needed for any time or day, and for any of our groups,” Director Shelly Platz said.

Stepping Stones serves about 114 children, from infants to age 11. Volunteers can help with a variety of tasks, from art activities to outdoor play to feeding and rocking infants.

“We have several KU students now (who are volunteers), and we work around their schedules,” she said.

Volunteers can determine how much time they want to spend at the center. For example, Platz said, one volunteer works three hours, one day a week while another works two hours, three times a week.

Volunteers must be 16 or older and attend an orientation session. They also must pass a tuberculosis test and an FBI screening.

Those interested in volunteering at Stepping Stones can call Platz from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday at 843-5919.
