She was born July 1, 1926, in Formosa, the daughter of Harry L. and Phoebe A (Berg) Bishop. She attended grade school in Formosa and graduated from the Miltonvale Academy in Miltonvale. She was a cook and caterer for the Canteen Corp. in Kansas City for 15 years before retiring in 1992.

She marred Joel Gustafson Fritzel on Dec. 13, 1947, in Lawrence. He died in September 1990.

Survivors include a son, Roger D. Fritzel, Rushville, Mo.; four daughters, Angela Layton, Weston, Mo., Joy M. Sparks, Hollister, Mo., Deborah L. Campbell, Eureka Springs, Mo., and Elizabeth A. Muich, Monroe City, Mo.; two brothers, Harry “Elston” Bishop, Radford, Va., and Keith Bishop, Kansas City, Mo.; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A son, John LeRoy Fritzel, died earlier.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home in Atchison. The family suggests memorials to Mothers Against Drunk Drivers.
