Red flag out for marriage

West Palm Beach, Fla. Jeff Gordon’s wife has filed for divorce after seven years of marriage to the four-time Winston Cup champion.

Brooke Gordon said in court papers filed Friday the marriage was “irretrievably broken,”the Palm Beach Post reported Saturday. It did not specify the problems.

She and her husband are considered the highest-profile couple in NASCAR, appearing together in commercials.

Jeff Gordon, 30, in Darlington, S.C., for the Carolina Dodge Dealers 400, would not elaborate on the report Saturday.

“I hope you guys can respect me at this time,” he said.

Jennifer Brooke Sealey was a Miss Winston when she met Gordon in victory lane after a race at Daytona International Speedway. They married Nov. 26, 1994, and have no children.

M.P. not keen on Keys

London Even Alicia Keys can’t win everyone’s hearts. The five-time Grammy winner’s performance Friday at a building connected to Parliament has drawn the ire of a British legislator.

An invited audience of journalists and schoolchildren saw the 21-year-old Keys sing at Portcullis House in a room often used for lawmakers’ committee meetings.

But opposition Liberal Democrat legislator Paul Tyler was not impressed.

“House authorities may have unwittingly created a precedent for all sorts of commercial events. How can they now resist the Brit Awards, Miss World or the launch of a new deodorant?”

Supreme a ‘Sophisticated Lady’

New York Mary Wilson has been a Supreme; now she’s a sophisticated lady. The former Motown star is touring the country in a version of “Sophisticated Ladies,” the 1980s hit Broadway musical based on the music of jazz great Duke Ellington.

“It really is about the Cotton Club in Harlem and what was going on in the 20s and the 30s,” Wilson said.

Wilson, who was one-third of the Supremes, said it was difficult to get the play off the ground when the economy soured after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

“We really only got it started Feb. 4th, so it’s been going great,” she said. “But boy, was it hard.”

Decoration day for Stevens

Los Angeles Connie Stevens’ USO trips have paid off beyond the satisfaction she gets from entertaining the troops.

Stevens has been given the Army’s Decoration for Distinguished Civilian Service Medal. The medal was presented to the actress at a recent ski event in Jackson Hole, Wyo., her publicist said Thursday.

Stevens says her support for the military comes from her heart.

“For my many trips overseas with the USO, I will always be grateful for that experience.”
