Old home town – 100 years ago today

On March 14, 1902 the Lawrence World stated “There is some opposition developing against paving Pinckney (now Sixth) Street. The word is being passed around that unless the city paves through the block from Kentucky to Tennessee the paving will not be so good. No one has any authority for saying that the block through the park will not be paved. The city council will pass upon this when he gets to it. As a majority of the property owners have signed the petition for change from one course to two courses of brick. It is hard to see how there can be any hitch at this time.”
