William H. Sipple

Perry Services for William H. Sipple, 90, Perry, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Perry United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Perry.

Mr. Sipple died Monday, March 11, 2002, at Midland Hospice House, Topeka

He was born July 14, 1911, in Laddonia, Mo., the son of James M. and Maggie A. (Skelly) Sipple. He graduated from Laddonia High School and attended Central Methodist Square College, Fayette, Mo. He received his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Missouri, Columbia. He had lived in Perry since 1951, moving from Overland Park.

He worked as a project planning engineer for Southwestern Bell Co., Topeka, for more than 35 years. He retired in 1976. He formerly served at Bell Laboratories in New York City for military projects during World War II.

Mr. Sipple was a member of Perry United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the choir and served as a Sunday school teacher. He also sang with the Bell Aires, a choir with the Southwestern Bell Co., for many years. He was a member of bowling leagues in Topeka and Lawrence.

He married Lois V. Riley on June 26, 1938, in Mexico, Mo. She died Feb. 1, 1994.

Survivors include two daughters, Lois A. Sipple, Perry, and Joyce S. Essman, Topeka; two sisters, Sarah Burkey, Mexico, Mo., and Charlotte Farris, Rush Hill, Mo.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday at Barnett Funeral Home, Oskaloosa, and after 5 p.m. Wednesday at the church, were the family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
