Three city boys players named to league squad

Three city high school boys basketball players  Lawrence High seniors Stephen Vinson and D.J. Watkins and Free State High junior Keith Wooden  were first-team picks for the all-Sunflower League team.

Vinson, the league’s player of the year for being the top vote-getter by the Sunflower coaches, averaged 15.9 points a game and led the team in assists. Watkins, the school’s all-time three-point shooter, averaged 17.7 points a game to lead the Lions.

Wooden, Free State’s all-time leading scorer, averaged 16.6 points a game.

Senior Andron Cruse and junior Neil Dougherty received honorable mention for Free State. Firebird Dain Dillingham was named sophomore of the year.

Lawrence senior Jamie Peterson received honorable mention as did LHS juniors Brandon McAnderson and Bryan Cargill.

Olathe South’s John McFall was named coach of the year.
