IN 1977

The Lawrence City Commission approved a 40-year contract for water sales to Baldwin, which had encountered serious shortages during the recent drought periods. The newly approved Clinton Reservoir Treatment Plant was due to help provide water for the south Douglas County city by 1980. Both Lawrence and Baldwin officials lauded the agreement as vital to the future for the area.

IN 1902

On March 11, 1902, the Lawrence World editorialized: “The advancement in farm values is something wonderful. Farms that went begging a few years ago are now sold for a brisker advance in price than was then asked. This means that Kansas is filling up with the right kind of people, with farmers who own their farms and who come to have more progress. The sale of farm lands is an encouraging sign. Nearly one-third of all the land in Douglas county has changed hands within the year.
