William D. Shoemaker

Services for William D. Shoemaker, 63, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Pleasant Grove. Masonic rites will be before burial at the mortuary.

Mr. Shoemaker died Saturday, March 9, 2002, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born Aug. 29, 1938, in Douglas County, the son of Virgil Guy and Florence E. (Postma) Shoemaker. He was a lifelong resident of the Lawrence area.

Mr. Shoemaker worked as an engineer for 40 years at the Kansas Cold Storage Plant, Kansas City, Kan. He had owned and operated the company since 1997.

He was a member of the Lawrence Masonic Lodge No. 6; the 32nd Degree Scottish Rite of Free Masonry; KCCH of the Scottish Rite, Mt. Oread Eagles Lodge Aerie No. 309, and Moose Lodge No. 0555 in Topeka.

Mr. Shoemaker married Wanda Sue Richardson Christie Aug. 26, 1979, in Lawrence. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include a stepdaughter, Lana Christie Hayes, Lawrence; two stepsons, Alan R. Christie and Cary W. Christie, both of Olathe; one sister, Shirley Buek, Burlingame; a brother, Robert, Topeka; and five stepgrandchildren.

Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Monday or until noon Tuesday at the mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to the Shriners Children’s Burn Center, The Kansas Lion’s Eye Bank or the American Cancer Society, sent in care of the mortuary.
