Lusk takes title in ARCA race

Hampton, Ga.  Damon Lusk won the rain-shortened ARCA Series Pork The Other White Meat 400 Saturday, narrowly beating Chad Blount back to the caution flag with 45 laps left when the rain started. Lusk edged Blount by .001 seconds  about the length of Lusk’s front bumper. ARCA officials said it was the closest finish in the 50-year history of the series, even though the cars ran one more lap under the yellow.

It was the second straight race that ended early because of rain, joining the season opener at Daytona International Speedway.

The cars ran side-by-side for two laps before the caution.

Test rider killed

Talladega, Ala. Â A 30-year-old Harley-Davidson test rider died in an accident at Talladega Superspeedway. Paul Howie, Oxford, Ala., was pronounced dead at Citizens Baptist Medical Center in Talladega from injuries sustained in the accident early Thursday.

Panizzi leads Corsica

Ajaccio, Corsica  France’s Gilles Panizzi was on course for his second Tour of Corsica victory after finishing Saturday’s leg with a 41.7-second lead over Peugeot teammate Marcus Gronholm. Panizzi, who won two years ago, won four of the day’s seven special stages for an overall time of 2:45:22.2.
