Sexton City Champ: Stacy Sexton rolled a 694 to win the singles crown in the Lawrence Women’s Bowling Assn. tournament at Royal Crest Lanes. The team championship went to C.G. & J. Inc. with a score of 3,220. Team members were Diane Jeffress, Janet Lewis, Lori Ussery, Kathy Wagner and Cheryl Keslar. Ussery and Keslar also teamed for the doubles crown by rolling a 1,438. Keslar captured all-events with a 2,002.

Official Honored: Jim LaPoint of Lawrence has been selected as the Kansas high school boys soccer referee of the year by the National Federation Officials Assn. LaPoint also won the award in 1995.

City Matman Fourth: Brett Shoffner of Lawrence placed fourth in the U-16 class at 155 pounds in the Wichita Classic youth wrestling tournament last weekend in Wichita. Lawrence’s K.J. Siebert also competed at 135 pounds.

Hayes Earns Mat Gold: Brianna Hayes of Lawrence won a gold medal in the Kansas Girls Wrestling championships last weekend in Atchison. Sara Hilliard earned a silver medal while Misty Hayes, Katirina Hayes and Diane Riat won bronze. Adrienne Yost earned a fourth place. Emma Mercer and Amber Bailey posted fifth-place finishes.

Youth Baseball: Registration forms for Houk-Ice and Holcom summer youth baseball leagues are available at the Holcom Rec Center, 2700 W. 27th St. Tryouts for the Houk-Ice League (ages 13-14) will be on April 6-7 and for the Holcom League (ages 15-17) on May 18-19. LGA Earns Third: Lawrence Gymnastics Academy’s Level Eight performers finished third in the team standings at the March Madness meet last weekend in Olathe. Mallory West was fifth in the all-around, Ashley Sakumura seventh and Jillian Hay ninth in the ages 10-12 bracket. Kara Kellison was ninth in all-around in the 13-plus age group. At Level Seven, LGA’s Meredith West was eighth in all-around. Kathy Heflin also competed. At Level Six, Chelsey Ornburn, Adrienne Struble and Dianna Torgerson led LGA to a second-place team finish. At Level Five, Arden Leland earned a third place. Also competing were Rachael Schaffer, Alexis Gonzales, Kelcy Bowers, Abby Thompson, Jennifer Hughes and Ellen Hernly.

Triathlon Session: Lawrence Multisport, Inc. will hold an informational meeting on the triathlon at 7 p.m. Sunday at West Coast Saloon, 23rd and Iowa. Experts will speak on swimming, biking and running. For information, call 550-6060.

Lacrosse Tourney: Five Women’s Collegiate Lacrosse League teams, including host Kansas, will battle in a six-game round-robin tournament on Saturday at Broken Arrow Park. KU will meet Missouri at 11:15 a.m., Illinois at 1:45 p.m. and Bethel at 4:15 p.m. Knox College is also in the tourney.

Chadwick Fifth: Joyia Chadwick, a Williams College freshman from Lawrence, finished third in the pentathlon at the ECAC Indoor track championships last weekend. Chadwick finished fifth in the event at the All-New England championships last month.
