Eldon L. Green

He was born Aug. 16, 1929, in Kingman, the son of Earl V. and L. Opal (Crumley) Green. He grew up in Kingman, graduating from high school there in 1947.

He joined the Kansas Army National Guard unit in Kingman. He began his career working at the Safeway Co. grocery stores in Kingman, Stafford, Great Bend and Pratt. In 1956, he went to work at Peoples Bank of Pratt, first as a teller. He was later promoted to cashier and loan officer, leaving that position in 1982. In 1982, he joined Iuka State Bank. He served as its president from 1984 to 1986. From 1991 to 1994, he and his wife lived and worked in Wichita. In 1994, he moved to Lawrence, where he worked at Whelan’s Lumber Co., until he retired in January 2000.

He was active in Pratt County as a Little League baseball coach and Scoutmaster. He was also a member of Kiwanis Club, Optimist Club and Pratt Public Library Board. He was a volunteer at the Salvation Army. He was a guest instructor for money and banking classes at Pratt Community Junior College.

He married Janet Swope on July 29, 1953, in Kingman. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include three sons, Steven, Lawrence, Scott, Duncanville, Tex., and Chris, Wellsville; two brothers, Dwayne, Mulvane, and Vernon, Galveston, Tex.; a sister, Elaine Green, Moran; and five grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to Alzheimer’s Assn., sent in care of the funeral home.
