Colorado 67, Nebraska 60

? Blair Wilson scored 24 points and Michel Morandais added 16 as short-handed Colorado withstood two Nebraska rallies for a 67-60 victory Thursday in the Big 12 tournament.

Colorado (15-13), which led by as many as 16 points in the first half before letting the Huskers get back to within 2, went ahead 48-35 on David Harrison’s bucket in the second half.

But then Cary Cochran hit two 3-pointers and Corey Simms had one to ignite another Nebraska rally.

They sliced the lead to 56-51 with 4:06 to go on Jake Muhleisen’s bucket, then Wilson’s 3-pointer triggered a quick 7-0 spurt for Colorado, which will meet No. 1 Kansas Friday in the second round.

The Huskers (13-15), who have not won a Big 12 tournament game since 1999, shot only 30 percent. They were only 7-of-31 from behind the arc after setting a team record this year with 260 3-pointers.

Since beating Nebraska 84-61 at home on Feb. 5, Colorado had lost six of seven games. Colorado was without senior captain D. J. Harrison, who had scored at least 20 points in three of five games before breaking a bone in his right hand on Feb. 20.

The Buffaloes scored the first 12 points of the game while cold-shooting Nebraska had to wait almost six minutes for its first field goal. The lead went to 20-4 when Stephane Pelle made a three-point play.

But then freshman point guard Muhleisen had seven points and Cochran had five in an 18-4 run for the Huskers, who finally closed to 24-22 on a pair of free throws by John Robinson.

Two free throws by Colorado’s Nick Mohr put the Buffs ahead 31-26 at halftime.

Cochran led Nebraska with 22 points while Muhleisen had 13.

Pelle, the second-leading rebounder in the Big 12 behind player-of-the-year Drew Gooden of Kansas, had 14 boards and 12 points.
