DePaul’s Kennedy resigns

Coach out after dismal 9-19 season

? Saying the passion and enthusiasm he’d once had for his job was gone, DePaul coach Pat Kennedy resigned Tuesday.

“If you finally get to the point where the passion and drive is not there, it might be best to just step away,” Kennedy said Tuesday.

“I thought the timing was right. How do you know the timing is right? I don’t know. It just felt right.”

Kennedy’s departure follows a 9-19 season.

Former Kansas player Marlon London averaged 4.0 points a game in 18 games for DePaul, missing the last seven games with a knee injury.

“I felt my job was to make DePaul a player locally, regionally and nationally,” Kennedy said. “I think we did our job. We fell a little short at the end.”

Kennedy’s program thrived when Chicago product Quentin Richardson played for the team. But Richardson and four other Blue Demons bolted to the NBA before their eligibility expired, decimating the program.
