? She was born July 17, 1923, in Winona, Mo., the daughter of Edward and Maude (Remby) Grandstaff. She was raised in Perry, Kan., and attended schools there.

Mrs. Simmons was in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1947 and was discharged as a sergeant. She worked as a cashier at and retired from A&P grocery store, Lawrence, Kan. In 1973 she moved to El Paso, and then moved back to Lawrence, Kan., in 1999.

She married Harold Belt. They were divorced. She then married Paul Simmons. He died earlier.

Survivors include two stepsons, Ron Simmons, Topeka, Kan., and Ernie Simmons, Olpe, Kan.; two stepdaughters, Debra Powell, Lecompton, Kan., and Pam Brennan, Silver Lake, Kan.; two brothers, Matt Grandstaff, Topeka, Kan., and Gene Grandstaff, Perry, Kan.; three sisters, Velma Fowler, Tonganoxie, Kan., Ruby Powers, Iowa, and Ruth, Washington.
