Dad joins three sons in Busch Series race

Wisconsin short-track driver Jim Sauter will become the first father to race against three sons in NASCAR national series competition when he takes the track Sunday at The Milwaukee Mile.

The 59-year-old father of 12 will drive the No. 29 Rockwell/Advance Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing, joining sons Jay, Tim and Johnny in the Busch Series race. Jay and Johnny Sauter are full-time Busch drivers for RCR.

“I don’t know who my stiffest competition among the boys will be, but I’m going to be pretty good competition for them,” said the elder Sauter, who made six Daytona 500 starts and remains active as an IROC test driver.

Priestley completes testing in Chicago

Actor Jason Priestley put his Kelley Racing car through two successful tests in three days as he prepares for the seven-race Infiniti Pro Series season.

Priestley and seven other drivers tested their Infiniti-powered cars Monday at Chicagoland Speedway, with speeds peaking at 177 mph on the 11/2-mile oval. On Saturday, the “Beverly Hills 90210” star turned laps at Gateway International Raceway.

“My goal is to compete well and win races in this series,” Priestley said. “That’s what I’m focusing on right now. This is a great opportunity, and I’m going to make the most of it.”

He’s receiving instruction from test driver Tony Renna.

“Tony’s awesome,” Priestley said. “He’s only 25, but he’s so smart about racing and these types of cars. Having him around is going to shorten the learning process for me.”

The Indy Racing League support series will begin its inaugural season July 7 at Kansas Speedway.

Le Mans champion to race in Ohio

The 24 Hours of Le Mans champion Audi Sport North America team and two of the other three class-winning teams will race this weekend in the American Le Mans Series event at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

Frank Biela, Tom Kristensen and Emanuele Pirro won at Le Mans in an Audi R8 Prototype, becoming the first drivers to win the historic endurance race three years in a row.

Pirro, the defending ALMS champion, and Biela will pilot the Le Mans-winning Audi at Mid-Ohio, and Kristensen will join Rinaldo Capello in the car that finished second in France.

Le Mans GTS class champions Ron Fellows and Johnny O’Connell are trying to defend their Mid-Ohio title in the Corvette Racing entry, and Le Mans GT winner Kevin Buckler will team with B.J. Zacharias in the Buckler-owned Racers Group Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
