State offers special hunts

? Hunters looking for a quality hunting experience are encouraged to check into a variety of special hunts offered by Wildlife and Parks.

Dozens of specially planned hunts for upland birds, waterfowl, deer and spring 2003 turkey are available by application. There is no charge for the hunts, but applications must be submitted by July 15.

“Most of these hunts provide opportunities on public areas that are normally closed to hunting,” Robert Barbee, state public lands supervisor, said. “By limiting the number of hunters on these areas, we can present a less crowded situation than might normally be encountered on a public wildlife area.”

Most of the hunts are open to all hunters, but some are designed specifically to accommodate young or disabled hunters. Descriptions, locations and hunt dates are outlined in an application booklet available at state offices, county clerk offices and most license vendors.
