Politics: Tanner files for re-election

Baldwin Republican Ralph Tanner has filed for re-election to the 10th District Kansas House of Representatives seat.

Tanner, a former president of Baker University, seeks a fifth term in the House. The 75-year-old Alabama native spent the past four years as chairman of the House Education Committee.

Democrat Tom Holland also has filed for the 10th District seat. The district includes southeast Douglas County and north-central Franklin County.

Other area candidates:

Democratic Rep. Barbara Ballard has filed to retain her 44th District seat in central and west Lawrence.

Republican Melissa Boisen has filed for the 45th District seat now held by fellow Republican Tom Sloan, who has filed for re-election. The post represents the western part of Douglas County, including much of west Lawrence.

Democratic incumbent Troy Findley is the only candidate to file for the 46th District seat, which covers part of central and all of eastern Lawrence.

Area: Former commissioner violates nudity resolution

Leavenworth A public nudity resolution signed into law by a former Leavenworth County commissioner has come back to haunt him.

Former commissioner Wayne Eldridge Sr. pleaded no contest Thursday to violating the public nudity resolution he and two other commissioners signed into law two years ago.

Eldridge pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting public nudity at Whispers Cabaret, a topless club he operated near Basehor. A judge fined Eldridge $616 for the misdemeanor but gave him no jail time.
