Detroit names Laimbeer
Former Pistons' forward to coach WNBA's Shock
AUBURN HILLS, MICH. ? The Detroit Shock hired former Pistons center Bill Laimbeer on Wednesday to replace Greg Williams as coach.
Williams was fired earlier in the day after the Shock started the season 0-10.
Laimbeer, who was in his first season as a special consultant to the Shock, played 13 seasons for the Pistons and helped them win consecutive NBA titles in 1989 and 1990.
“When I was playing, many people said I would be an outstanding coach,” Laimbeer said. “I believe that. Now I’ve got to prove it.”
Laimbeer, a four-time All-Star who is Detroit’s career rebounding leader and fifth in career scoring, is the latest former NBA player to make a move to the WNBA.
