To the editor:

I am a homeowner who lives on Justin Street, near the plot of undeveloped land south of Sixth Street and Folks Road. It has recently come to my attention that the city-county planning commission has approved a plan to allow the development of high-density apartment complexes on this land. This is not appropriate use of this land! We’ve lived in this neighborhood since its initial development, and it’s always been a neighborhood of single-family houses, families with children and a tightly knit neighborhood community.

We already have a traffic problem on Harvard Road. Now I understand that they are connecting Sixth Street and Harvard Road, using Folks Road to enable the development of a large apartment complex that will, no doubt, be filled with college students traveling to and from the Kansas University campus. If this happens, our current traffic problems will pale in comparison!

Please, Lawrence City Commission, don’t allow our neighborhood to be subject to this reckless development.
