Raiders win third straight contest

? Lawrence’s Raiders didn’t brood after dropping two games on Friday at the College World Series American Legion baseball tournament.

The Raiders instead became focused, winning their next three games, including Sunday’s 10-5 decision over Omaha Northwest.

“We went ‘3-maha’ instead of ‘0-maha’ this year,” Raiders’ coach Carl Brooks quipped, noting the Raiders went 0-4 with a rainout at the Nebraska Legion Tournament a year ago. “We’re absolutely proud of that fact.”

Mike Morrell went 3-for-5 with three RBIs Sunday. Kyle McManness was 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored. Aaron Madill was 2-3 with two RBIs. Cassidy Thompson went 2-for-3 with a triple and RBI.

“We were unbelievably aggressive at the plate,” said Brooks noting the team scored 33 runs off 44 hits in the last three games of the tourney, all wins.

Madill struck out six against two walks Sunday while scattering six hits.

“They didn’t get any great swings off him,” Brooks said. “They hit it off him but nobody punishes him.”

Morrell went 12-for-17 with eight RBIs at the tourney in which the Raiders went 3-2.

The Raiders bounced back after losing two games on Friday to take two on Saturday and one on Sunday.

Up next is a game Tuesday against KC Post 83 in Kansas City.
