Lakeside: Karrick claims back-to-back wins

? From an inside row-four starting position, Basehor’s Tim Karrick would only need the first two circuits of Lakeside Speedway’s dirt surface to take the lead from pole-sitter Steve Hawks.

Even with lap traffic to negotiate by lap 19, Karrick was able to stay no more than three car lengths ahead of point leader and defending champion, Clint Bowyer, Emporia, as he made his way to his third win of the season at the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Presented by Dodge.

Just when it appeared that Jeff Atchley, K.C., Kan., was going to break Kerry Davis’s seven-race win streak, a late caution would dash his hopes for a win.

On the restart, Davis was able to power slide his Grand National to the cushion in turn four, forcing Atchley to go low and out of his normal racing line.

While Atchley would make one last attempt for the lead in the first two turns, it would not be enough to keep Davis from a perfect eight straight wins.

With his first win in nearly 2 years, Darin Christy, K.C., Kan., became the seventh different winner this season in the Factory Stocks division. Leading every lap, he would have to fend off a hard charging field that included defending champion Danny Charles, of Reno, Kan., who was hot on his tail the last half of the race.
