I-70: First Late Model win for Jenny White

? After two laps of qualifying and a respectable fifth-fastest time of 17.209, Topeka’s Jenny White started inside row two for the 40-lap NASCAR Weekly Racing Series feature event Saturday night at I-70 Speedway.

The former TQ Midget Champion – and current KU student – overtook 1997 NWRS Champ and current NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series competitor, Aaron Daniel, K.C., Mo., and current Late Model hot shoe, Scotty Martin, Independence, Mo., by lap 14.

Running consistent laps between 17.82 and 17.88 for the remaining 26 circuits, White was able to maintain a sizable lead over Kent Crane, also from Independence, and current regional leader, Clint Bowyer, Emporia.

This victory not only marks the first Late Model win for the unsponsored White, but also marks the first time in the 33-year history of I-70 Speedway that a woman has won a NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Presented by Dodge Late Model Feature.
