Ramirez to spend more time in Pawtucket

Pawtucket, R.I. Manny Ramirez, originally scheduled to play in just four games for Triple-A Pawtucket while on a rehabilitation assignment after breaking his left index finger on May 11, will play at least two more games in the minors before rejoining the Boston Red Sox.

Ramirez, who has been Pawtucket’s designated hitter the last four games, will play in left field against Syracuse today then travel with the team to Syracuse on Tuesday, Pawtucket manager Buddy Bailey said.

Gutierrez placed on DL with strained groin

Denver The Cleveland Indians placed second baseman Ricky Gutierrez on the 15-day disabled list Sunday with a strained left groin.

Gutierrez was injured while scoring the winning run from first base in Cleveland’s 2-1, 10-inning win over Baltimore on Thursday. He has received treatment the past two games, but isn’t responding as quickly as the team would like. The move is retroactive to Friday.
