Half of KU’s football schedule has been finalized

Kickoff times for the first half of Kansas University’s 12-game 2002 football schedule have been announced.

The Jayhawks will open at Iowa State on Aug. 31 in an 11:30 a.m. contest that will be televised regionally. Then KU will play four night games in September, starting with a 9 p.m., Lawrence time, start at Nevada-Las Vegas on Sept. 7.

The Jayhawks’ home opener against Southwest Missouri State on Sept. 14 will begin at 6 p.m. That game also has been designated as Band Night.

A week later, the Jayhawks will play another 6 p.m. home game against Bowling Green, one of the top teams in the Mid-American Conference. That contest will serve as Parents Night.

Kansas will travel to Tulsa on Sept. 28 for its third straight 6 p.m. kickoff before resuming Big 12 Conference action on Oct. 5 at Baylor.

Since the Kansas-Baylor game is unlikely to be selected as part of the Big 12 television package, Baylor officials have already listed a 1 p.m. kickoff.

Starting times for the Jayhawks’ last six games, including the homecoming game with Colorado on Oct. 12, won’t be announced until two weeks prior to the game dates because of the league’s TV agreement.
