Art Guild to meet Monday at library

The Lawrence Art Guild will meet from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vt.

Illustrator Barry Fitzgerald will present a slide show.

KC Artists Coalition wins Warhol grant

Kansas City, Mo. The Kansas City Artists Coalition has won a $100,000 grant from the Andy Warhol Foundation for Visual Arts. The coalition is the only arts agency in the Midwest to receive the grant; eight other recipients are from New York or the West Coast.

The coalition has about 300 members; 16 are from Lawrence.

The group exhibits the work of mainstream and experimental artists in the area and sponsors the Open Studios Events each fall.

Kickboxers to sign copies of their book

Deb Buller and Jennifer Lawler, authors of “Kickboxing for Women,” will sign copies of their book and talk about kickboxing from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Borders, 701 N.H.

The authors also may demonstrate a couple of self-defense techniques.
