Retiree scores ace twice

? Tom Terrill, a 20-handicap golfer who plays a couple of times a week, beat odds estimated at 67 million-to-1 by scoring two holes-in-one during the same round.

Terrill, 57, a retired Navy captain and former fighter pilot, made the aces on par-3 holes during a round Thursday on Aeropines Golf Course’s Hornet Course at Oceana Naval Air Station.

“You can’t use the phrase ‘pure luck’ too often,” Terrill told The Virginian-Pilot about his aces in a round of 81. “Write it as often as you want. You will not be overstating things.”

Terrill, who had one previous hole-in-one in 30 years as a frustrated golfer, made his first ace on the 130-yard sixth hole with an 8-iron tee shot to within 4 feet that rolled in. Six holes later, on the next par 3, Terrill hit a 3-iron that also made a beeline for the hole 180 yards away.
