Commission meets behind closed doors

The Lawrence City Commission met in executive session for 20 minutes Tuesday night.

The private session was to discuss an undisclosed matter with the city’s legal counsel, Gerald Cooley. No action was taken following the session.

The executive session was one of two items on the commission’s regular agenda.

The other item concerned a public hearing for the formation of a benefit district to construct a left-hand turn lane from Sixth Street onto Comet Lane.

After the hearing, commissioners decided to defer their decision on how to assess the $325,000 cost among affected property owners.

Commissioners will revisit the issue in three weeks after further study.
