Foster plans to stay behind the camera

? Two-time Oscar-winner Jodie Foster says she expects to spend more of her time behind the scenes in the near future rather than appearing on the big screen.

Foster recently produced the upcoming movie “Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys” in which she also has a supporting role as a nun.

“I get very single-minded. I get one project in my jaw and I can’t get rid of that until I got it made. I wish I could direct more, and I just have not been able to. So I’m hoping in the future the ratio would be a little bit more directing then acting,” said Foster in an interview.

Previously, Foster produced “Nell” (1994) and “Waking the Dead” (2000). As a director, her debut was “Little Man Tate” in 1991. She has also produced and directed “Home for the Holidays” (1995) which starred Holly Hunter and Robert Downey Jr.

“I think when you direct, you just have a different understanding of what movies are. I’ve always loved the technical side of movie making. That’s always been my favorite side,” Foster said, appearing in a dark blue suit in front of a room full of journalists.

“The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys” a coming-out-of-age story about three teen-agers arrived at a time when Foster was leaning more toward the technical side of filmmaking. After reading the book the film is based on, she fell in love with the honesty of the story. Eventually, she ended up producing it.

The movie opens on June 14 in a limited release.

“The good thing about it, once you direct your first movie, you get so much therapy out of the way,” Foster said. “And then your second movie, it doesn’t have to be all about you yet. And by the time you get to the third movie, you get to a place where it has supposedly nothing to do with you but then you still see the similarities. It is interesting how each film exercises one part of your personality.”
