Ex-Jayhawk Gruber wins 800

? Former Kansas University runner Charlie Gruber won the 800-meter Olympic Development race on Saturday at Stanford University.

Gruber was clocked in 1:48.86. It was only the second time Gruber had run that distance in the 2002 season and was among his his all-time top three times in the event. His victory marked the second year in a row he had won a race at the U.S. Open; he won the Olympic Development 1,500 in 2001 with a time of 3:41.48.

Gruber, who recently graduated from KU, will continue to run in a Kansas uniform through the remainder of the summer outdoor season.
