Douglas County included in tornado watch

The National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a tornado watch for 47 counties in Kansas, including Douglas County and neighboring counties, until 10 p.m. Tuesday .

Ross Janssen, 6News meteorologist, said during the next few hours, the area can expect severe thunderstorms with potential for tornadoes.

“The watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes,” Janssen said.

He advised people to monitor media outlets and be prepared to take cover if a tornado warning is issued.

Counties in northeast Kansas included in the watch are Douglas, Shawnee, Franklin and Jefferson.

Cities in the watch include Lawrence, Ottawa, Topeka, Medicine Lodge, Dodge City, Hays, Russell, Emporia, Abilene, Junction City, Manhattan, Clay Center, Concordia, Marysville, Hiawatha, McPherson, Pratt, Larned, Ness City, Greensburg, Hutchinson, Great Bend and Salina.
