Union leaders, company officials to meet

Leaders of the union representing former workers at Lawrence’s Farmland nitrogen fertilizer plant will be meeting with company officials on Monday to begin negotiations over a possible severance package for the former employees.

Jesse Miller, international representative with the Paper, Allied-Industrial, Chemical & Energy Workers International Union, said he was meeting with company officials to request a severance package for about 100 workers who lost their jobs when the plant stopped production more than a year ago.

Miller said those employees never received a severance package because technically they were laid off rather than released.
