Garland helps Chisox snap 7-game skid

? Jon Garland pitched four-hit ball into the seventh inning as the Chicago White Sox snapped a seven-game losing streak Monday night with a 4-0 victory over the Kansas City Royals.

Magglio Ordonez, Frank Thomas and Paul Konerko each drove in runs for the White Sox, who won for the first time since May 25.

Garland (6-4) walked four and struck out five in 62/3 innings to improve to 2-1 with a 1.25 ERA in his last three starts. Five relievers finished the six-hitter, and Keith Foulke got the last three outs of Chicago’s fourth shutout this season.

Kansas City was blanked for the seventh time.

Jeremy Affeldt (1-3) took the loss despite allowing just three hits over seven innings in his seventh career start. The game was delayed by rain for 53 minutes in the eighth inning.

The Royals threatened in the seventh, when Garland gave up a leadoff single to Michael Tucker. Mark Quinn followed with a hit to right-center, but Ordonez was able to cut it off and throw out Quinn at second as Tucker advanced to third.

Garland got Brent Mayne to pop out, but walked Carlos Febles and was relieved. Antonio Osuna retired Chuck Knoblauch to end the inning.

White Sox fans wait out a rain delay in the eighth inning. The game resumed, and Chicago came away with a 4-0 victory over the Royals on Monday in Chicago.
